We have received £1.5 million of funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government as part of a £5 billion Pride in Place Programme. This funding is being used to enable community groups to apply for grants to improve their community venue and/or space.

What you can use the grant for

The grant funding can be used to:

  • provide funding to a community group to take ownership of a disused asset
  • provide funding to refurbish or improve an asset already in community ownership
  • fund refurbishment or improve assets owned by public bodies for community activity
  • fund creation, improvement or refurbishment of maker spaces
  • create or improve art galleries, theatres, museums, libraries, cultural or heritage sites, sports facilities
  • create or expand on existing community assets to promote community cohesion
  • create or improve outside spaces such as those connected to a community venue or separate such as a:
    • community garden
    • play area
    • sports pitch
    • pavilion or bandstand

Local organisations may apply for grants for capital improvements that create clear, visible impact for local residents.

All funded projects must be completed by 31 March 2027.

How the grant will be paid

Grants between £1,000 and £4,999

These grants will be paid in one instalment on receipt of signed terms and conditions. Organisations will need to submit evidence of spend (in the form of receipts and invoices) once the project is completed or by 31 March 2027, whichever is earliest.

Grants between £5,000 and £30,000

These grants will be paid in three instalments.

  1. Instalment 1: 50% of agreed grant funding paid on receipt of signed terms and conditions.
  2. Instalment 2: 25% of agreed funding paid on receipt of copies of invoices that total funding provided in the first instalment.
  3. Instalment 3: 25% of the agreed funding will be paid on completion of the project and receipt of all valid invoices for work completed by 31 March 2027.

The council reserves the right to recover any money from the grants where a valid invoice has not been provided.
