Parks and recreation

Luton boasts award winning parks as well as nationally designated wildlife sites. Follow this guide for more information on the full range of services we provide and how you can get involved in your local greenspace.

Parks management plans

Our greenspaces contribute to delivering our Luton 2040 vision for the town - to achieve a healthy, fair and sustainable town, where everyone can thrive and no-one has to live in poverty.

The value of greenspace was reinforced during the coronavirus pandemic with Luton’s parks, children’s play and countryside areas seeing a huge increase in use.

We know that well maintained parks attract people, business and investment to the town. They are socially inclusive spaces which, through being in the great outdoors, provide free access to opportunities for:

  • recreation
  • mental relaxation
  • maintaining our health and wellbeing

Our greenspaces also contribute to the climate change agenda, providing ecosystem services to benefit the community.

We've created a set of management plans that set out our vision for Luton's parks. These plans include information about:

  • the local context or each park
  • Luton's history
  • the make-up of our parks

In pursuit of excellence, Luton's Parks and Countryside service manages the parks to meet standards set out in the 'Raising the standard' manual. This guidance manual from Green Flag Award is the nationally recognised quality indicator for parks and greenspace.
