Tenancy security matrix for mutual exchanges between different landlords

You can swap homes with any council tenant or housing association tenant providing they have the right to mutual exchange and want to swap homes with you.

When carrying out a mutual exchange. it is important to check the type of tenancy that the other tenant has. Exchanging with a tenant who has a different tenancy type to you will affect some of your rights as a tenant.

Please check before you commit to an exchange and ask your housing officer if you are not sure.

The possible change to your tenant rights if you are carrying out a mutual exchange is described in the table below.
