Support for carers
Many people help an adult relative, friend or neighbour who would struggle to manage on their own. Support can look very different for different people. It may include helping someone wash, get dressed, travel to appointments, manage medication, cook meals or feel less lonely.
If this sounds familiar, you might be providing care without realising it.
This type of support is different from the role of a paid care worker. Care workers are trained and employed. People who provide unpaid help are simply doing their best for someone they care about.
Caring can be rewarding, but it can also be tiring and emotional. It can sometimes be hard to balance your own wellbeing with the needs of someone else. Luton has support available for people who provide unpaid care, including advice, practical help and emotional support.
This support is there to help you stay well and to make your caring role easier.
Carer's assessment
If you look after an adult and feel you would benefit from support, you can ask for a carer assessment.
This is a chance to talk about your situation and explore what help might make a difference to your own wellbeing.
