Street naming and numbering service

We're committed to protecting your privacy when you use our services. We have a data protection officer who makes sure we respect your rights and follow the law.

Personal data  

We process information about people who complete street naming and numbering applications. Also, people who contact the council as their address is not showing or incorrectly shown on our Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG).

Processing covers everything we do with your data from collecting your data, to storing, managing and deleting it.

Depending on the service(s) received, the information we hold will vary however, it may include the following personal and special category data.  

The information we collect will be the minimum we need to deliver our service.  

Information we collect about you may be provided by you or we may process your personal information provided by electoral services, customer services, council tax, non-domestic rates, waste services, planning and building control for the purpose of getting your address/amending your address on our Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG), which allows them to carry out their statutory duties.

The information listed below represents the types of personal data we may process as part of your application or enquiry.

  • Last name
  • Address
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Signature and bank account details

Special category data

None.

Purpose for using it  

We use your personal data to:

  • create new addresses  
  • amend existing addresses
  • make enquiries regarding planning permission and if required, inform planning enforcement

Lawful basis  

We process your personal data under the following categories:

  • personal data: Processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller

Who we share it with  

We may share your personal data with the following:

  • Royal Mail
  • emergency services
  • GeoPlace
  • utility companies
  • land registry
  • other internal departments such as: council tax, non-domestic rates, electoral registration, planning, planning enforcement, housing, education, customer services and building control.
  • Valuation Office Agency

Why we share it with them 

We share personal data with relevant organisations to:

  • ensure address mapping, mail delivery
  • ensure that the address is known by agencies such as emergency services for safety purposes
  • assist other council departments with their statutory duties
  • ensure that any new addresses created are done so with the proper authorisation

Any automated decision making or profiling  

None

Transfer of data to another country  

We do not transfer personal data outside the UK.

Retention period  

The data will be kept in accordance with our retention schedule.

Exercising your rights

You have the right to ask us to amend or delete your data as well transfer or limit its use. You also have the right to request a review of an automated decision where you think this is wrong.

Each request will be considered individually. Where we are required to keep your data by law we may be unable to action your request. In all circumstances we will explain our decision making in writing to you.
