A forced marriage happens when one or both people do not, or cannot, give their full consent to the marriage. This can include situations where a person is underage, has a learning disability, has a physical disability that affects decision‑making, or is pressured into agreeing.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office have published a series of guidelines which are available below, outlining how agencies should be working to support victims and prevent forced marriage.
