Talk to neighbours and build support

Consult neighbours informally and by letter about your Play Street plans, address any objections, and note that full agreement isn’t required, but the council may refuse applications only if there are serious safety or access concerns.

Speak to neighbours informally first to explain what a Play Street is and reassure them about access, parking, and parental responsibility. Then send a consultation letter to all residents and businesses with the proposed dates, times, details of the closure, and how to raise concerns.

You must consult everyone, though unanimous support isn’t required. Address objections directly where possible, as councils usually only refuse applications for serious safety or access issues.
