Any member of the public can make a personal inspection of the local land charges register. The service operate an appointment system. If wish to view the register, contact the service on the telephone numbers listed.
It is expected the individual carrying out a private search of the register should have sufficient knowledge of local land charges and the governing legislation to enable correct interpretation of the data for the search to be completed.
On 27 July 2010 an amendment was laid before parliament to the Local Land Charges Rules 1977. The amendment may be cited as the Local Land Charges (Amendment) Rules 2010 reference 2010 No. 1812. The amendment relates to schedule 3 (fees). The whole of the entry for item 5 is omitted. Therefore, a personal inspection of the local land charges register will be made available free of charge.
