Temporary road closures due to demonstrations, parades and sporting events
Sometimes it is necessary to close roads to allow certain events to take place safely, including:
- sporting events
- parades
- demonstrations
Temporary traffic regulation orders (TROs)
When special events require the road to be closed off to general traffic, a temporary road closure is required. This is granted with the written agreement of the police.
Costs and timescales
The event organiser has to pay the costs for the closure and diversion signing.
We need at least six weeks notice. For some events up to three months is needed, in order to organise them properly.
Large events may require even longer.
Usually roads which are closed for sporting events can only be closed once a year, without the consent of The Secretary of State.
Demonstrations
We cannot deal with demonstrations. They are dealt with by Bedfordshire Police.
