Luton Council insures the building you live in, but your personal belongings - like furniture, clothes and electrical items - are not covered.
To help, we work with Aviva to offer a simple and affordable contents insurance scheme for council tenants and leaseholders.
Your insurance is paid alongside your rent, so there’s no need to manage separate bills or direct debits.

What this insurance can cover
Tenant contents insurance may cover loss or damage caused by:
- fire
- theft
- flooding or escape of water
- storm damage
It can also include:
- replacement of external door locks if keys are lost or stolen
- damage to freezer food
- personal liability (for accidental damage or injury to others)
- tenant’s liability for damage to council property
Optional accidental damage cover is available for an additional weekly cost.

Before taking out cover, it’s important to understand what is and isn’t included, as well as how the policy works, so you can choose the right protection for your needs with confidence.

- Wear and tear or mechanical breakdown is not covered

How to make a claim
If your belongings are damaged, lost or stolen - for example by: fire, flooding, theft or a burst pipe - you can make a claim directly with the insurer.
