About the scheme

If you're at risk of losing your home, we can help you create a personal housing plan. This plan will consider your:

  • household size
  • support needs, such as disabilities
  • budget to find suitable and affordable accommodation

If you need housing, the private rented sector offers more readily available options. We can help you navigate this process.

Why we need this scheme

With 12,000 people waiting on the housing register, we do not have enough council or housing association tenancies available to meet the demand. Large properties from three bedrooms and above very rarely come available.

In Luton, you may wait over 10 years for a council or housing association tenancy, even if you have children or are sick or disabled.

What the scheme offers

We offer:

  • one month's rent
  • five weeks' deposit
  • rent shortfall (if needed)

Any financial assistance provided will be subject to a financial assessment and housing needs assessment by one of our housing solutions officers.

Cash incentives for landlords

The scheme also offers private sector landlord in Luton a cash incentive for providing properties under a 24-month assured shorthold tenancy (AST).
