Care options

Care options, supported living, independent living for people with disabilities, living with a supportive carer, paying for residential care.

Extra care housing

For those looking for more support, extra care housing helps you stay independent for as long as possible, with care and support available when you need it.

You have your own home, your own front door and your own space, with the reassurance that care staff are on site at all times if your needs change.

You can receive different levels of support, from a small amount of help each day to more regular care. This flexibility means extra care can prevent unnecessary hospital stays or the need to move into a care home.

If you live with a partner and one or both of you need support, you can move into extra care together.

Extra care scheme in Luton

In Luton, we have 4 four extra care schemes. These are provided by our in-house provider services, and some are commissioned by external providers:

  • Betty Dodd
  • Jill Jenkins
  • Abigail Court
  • Colwell Court

These are designed for people with higher support needs and have care staff available twenty four hours a day, although they do not provide care to every resident. The buildings and communal facilities are similar to sheltered housing, with added support on site.

The application process for extra care is slightly different from general sheltered housing, and adult social care can guide you through the steps.
