Our role in managing flood risk
We became the Lead Local Flood Authority under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010.
This law gave us specific legal responsibilities for managing flood risk in the local area. These duties focus on reducing the impact of flooding and working with other organisations to manage flood risk effectively.
As the Lead Local Flood Authority, we have a number of legal duties to help manage and reduce flood risk in the borough:
- flood investigations
- register of flood risk features
- sustainable drainage systems
- local flood risk management strategy
- designation of flood risk assets
- consenting on ordinary watercourses
Highway drainage responsibilities
We are also responsible for managing highway drainage, including gullies and drains on public roads.
More information is available at road and street maintenance.
