RSPCA Community Animal Welfare Footprint Award
The RSPCA's Community Animal Welfare Footprints (CAWF) scheme honours organisations for their first-class initiatives that improve animal welfare. Only pioneering local authorities, housing providers and other public service organisations across England are recognised through the scheme.
Platinum Stray Dog Footprint Award
Luton Council is incredibly proud to hold the RSPCA Platinum Stray Dog Footprint Award, having retained this prestigious national recognition for three consecutive years, most recently in 2026. The award recognises local authorities that demonstrate exceptional standards in stray dog welfare and management, going above and beyond their statutory responsibilities.
The platinum award reflects our commitment to:
- providing excellent care and welfare for stray dogs
- effectively reuniting lost dogs with their owners
- promoting responsible dog ownership through education and community engagement
- demonstrating a sustained commitment to animal welfare over many years
The award places Luton Council among the leading local authorities in England for stray dog welfare and is independent recognition of the high standards delivered by our Dog Warden Service.
Luton Council also previously achieved the Gold Stray Dog Footprint Award, including recognition for maintaining Gold status continuously over five years.
RSPCA Special Recognition Award
In 2017, Luton Council received a Special Recognition Award from the RSPCA, acknowledging the Dog Warden Service's commitment to identifying and supporting responsible dog owners across the borough. Luton was one of only three councils in the country to receive this prestigious award.
Together, these awards demonstrate Luton Council's long-standing commitment to:
- improving animal welfare
- promoting responsible dog ownership
- delivering an outstanding Dog Warden Service for residents and their pets
