MOT costs

The cost of the MOT depends on the class of your vehicle. Each test includes a free re-test as long as you return your vehicle within ten working days.

Class 1 + 2 motorcycle

Class 1 vehicles with an engine size up to 200cm cubed cost £29.

Motorcycles and motorcycles with a sidecar cost £37.

Class 4 

Class 4 vehicles cost £54.80. 

This includes:

  • cars (up to eight passenger seats)
  • motor caravans
  • three wheeled vehicles (over 450kg unladen weight)
  • quads - with a maximum unladen weight of 400kg
  • goods vehicles - up to 550kg and with a maximum net power of 15kW
  • dual purpose vehicles
  • private hire vehicle and PSVs (up to eight seats)
  • goods vehicles - up to 3,000 GVW
  • ambulances (up to eight passenger seats)
  • taxis (may also be subject to local conditions)

Private passenger vehicles 

Private passenger vehicles cost £57. 

This includes ambulances and private passenger vehicles, from nine to 12 seats.

Class 4A

Class 4A vehicles cost £64.

This includes a seat belt installation check.

Class 5

Class 5 vehicles cost:

  • £59.50 – private passenger vehicle with 13-16 passenger seats
  • £80.65 – vehicles and ambulances with more than 16 passenger seats and play buses

Class 5A

Class 5A vehicles cost:

  • £80.50 – 13-16 passenger seats
  • £124.50 – more than 16 passenger seats

This includes a seat belt installation check.

Class 7 

Class 7 vehicles cost £58.60.

This includes goods vehicles – over 3,000kg and up to 3,5000kg.

A duplicate test certificate costs £10.

Safety notice

You cannot access the yard without a high visibility vest.

You must remain strictly within the designated customer reception area during your MOT test.

If you must access the yard, you can ask a member of staff at reception for a vest and make sure to only use the designated pedestrian walkways.

Ensure all borrowed vests are returned to reception when you leave.

For your safety it is a mandatory requirement that all customers and visitors wear a high visibility vest when walking around the Kingsway depot yard. This applies to the walkways, smoking area and the canteen.
