Dropped kerbs and vehicle crossovers

A vehicle crossover allows you to drive across the highway or footway to gain access to your property.

You can apply to have the kerb dropped outside your property. There is a cost for this service.

It’s an offence to drive a vehicle across a footway or verge where there is no proper vehicle crossover, under section 184 of the Highways Act 1980.

If you drive over the footway or verge without a crossover, damage may be caused to the surface, the kerb, and any pipes and cables hidden underneath. You could be liable for the entire repair costs and any claims for compensation resulting from the damage.
