Safer speed and speed cameras

We work with Bedfordshire Police to reduce speeding in Luton.

Two-thirds of all crashes in which people are killed or injured happen on roads with a speed limit of 30mph or less. At 35mph a driver is twice as likely to kill someone as they are at 30mph.

Speed cameras

The purpose of a speed camera is to change driver behaviour. Cameras are only used when people break the speed limit. They are located in areas with a history of serious accidents.

If you have concerns, report them to Bedfordshire police. The online reporting system has specific tabs for anti-social driving.

We support Speedwatch which is run by Bedfordshire Police volunteers who want to make a difference in their community. The volunteers will carry out speed checks using a SID (Speed Indicator Device) on the side of the road.
