New Executive confirmed for Luton Council

The Executive is the group of councillors who work with the Leader to make key decisions for the council and oversee specific areas of its work and services.

The Executive includes six Liberal Democrat councillors, three Independent Alliance councillors and one Conservative councillor. The Labour Group is the council’s official opposition.

Councillor Rob Roche has been appointed Deputy Leader. 

The New Executive and their portfolio responsibilities:

• Regeneration and Inclusive Growth – Councillor Aslam Khan (Conservative)
• Sustainable Development and Highways - Councillor Adrees Latif (Liberal Democrat)
• Waste, Climate Change and Neighbourhood Services - Councillor Steve Stephens (Liberal Democrat)
• Women, Equalities and Community Safety - Councillor Rumi Chowdhury (Independent Alliance)
• Finance, Revenues and Benefits - Councillor Matt Fry (Liberal Democrat)
• Children’s Services – Enhancing Skills and Education and Children’s Health and Wellbeing - Councillor Lee Bridgen (Liberal Democrat) with Councillor Gillian Fry (Liberal Democrat) supporting on skills and education.
• Housing, Temporary Accommodation and Building Control - Councillor Rob Roche (Independent Alliance)
• Public Health and Integration - Councillor Khtija Malik (Independent Alliance)
• Adult Social Care - Councillor Richard Underwood (Liberal Democrat)

Councillor Amjid Ali, Leader of Luton Council, said: “As we begin this new chapter, I am  pleased to be working alongside a new Executive team, bringing together councillors with a range of experience and a shared commitment to Luton. Together, we will be focused on listening to residents, understanding the issues that matter to different communities across our town and making sure their priorities are reflected in the work and decisions of the council.
