Kidney Wood is an ancient semi‑natural woodland on the southern edge of Luton and is recognised as a County Wildlife Site. It is considered a priority habitat both nationally and within the Bedfordshire and Luton Biodiversity Action Plan.
Luton Borough Council owns the woodland as an area of public open space and works to protect and enhance its natural habitats. The aim is to balance conservation with public access, allowing people to enjoy informal recreation and woodland play without harming the environment.
Kidney Wood includes a marked nature trail and natural play areas where families can explore and enjoy time outdoors. Parking is available nearby at Stockwood Park, and information leaflets about the woodland can be found at the Stockwood Park Discovery Centre reception.
