Single person discount review

Confirm you are still the sole adult (over 18) living in your property to remain eligible for a single person discount.

If your current Council Tax bill is reduced by 25% because, according to our records, you are the only adult (over 18) living in the property. You need to confirm this is still the case otherwise you will have to pay the full amount.

You only need to do this if you received a letter asking you to do so.

Why we are conducting a review

We are writing to residents currently receiving the Single Person Discount on their Council Tax because of information shared through the National Fraud Initiative (NFI).

The information has come from the National Fraud Initiative which is an exercise that matches electronic data within and between public and private sector bodies to prevent and detect fraud. All councils take part in this exercise to ensure records held are correct.

Completing the review

You have 14 days from the date of our letter or email to return the form. If we do not hear from you within this timescale, your discount will be removed from the 1 April (or date of commencement if applied later). You will be sent an amended Council Tax bill to reflect this increase.

You will also be able to tell us about any changes which may affect your entitlement. If you have already contacted us about a change in circumstances, you will still need to complete the review form.

You may need to provide evidence such as a bank statement to show that you are getting Child Benefit for the person over 18.
