Submit a complaint

Submit a complaint if:

  • you have already contacted the service and the issue has not been resolved
  • there has been a delay or poor service, and the service's published response time has passed
  • you are unhappy with staff conduct or behaviour
  • you believe a mistake was made in handling your case

There is a different process for complaining about the conduct of a councillor.

School fines or complaints

Contact the school directly if your enquiry is about:

  • an attendance fine you have received
  • a complaint about a school

Submit a comment or a compliment

You can also:

  • send a compliment if someone at the council has helped you or provided a good service
  • leave a comment or suggestion if you want to give feedback or suggest an improvement, but do not want us to investigate a complaint

If someone else is submitting feedback for you

Some can submit feedback on your behalf if you need support. They should represent your views and interests and can help explain what you want to happen.

After we receive your complaint

We will send you an email to confirm that we have received your submission. The email will include a link to the case portal, where you can track the progress of your case and provide more information if needed.

We will review your submission to check that we have enough information to process it as a complaint. We may email you if we need anything else.

Once we have the information we need, we will:

  • formally acknowledge your complaint
  • allocate it to an officer to investigate
  • let you know when you can expect a response

For more information about how we investigate complaints, response times and what to do if you are unhappy with our response, go to our corporate complaints policy.

Other complaints procedures

There are separate procedures for:

If you are still unhappy after completing our complaints process

You can ask the Ombudsman to consider your complaint.
