The Climate Action Teachers Champions (CATCh)

The Climate Action Teachers Champions (CATCh) scheme was a flagship 10-week training programme designed to empower school staff with the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead on meaningful climate action in their schools.

CATCh was specifically designed to help teachers embed climate change and sustainability within their learning programmes, and to help school leads and senior leadership to understand how they can access local resources, funding and support to help launch their school Climate Change Action Plan. This helps meet the Department for Education’s expectation that all education settings would have a plan in place by the end of 2025.

A total of 33 Luton schools were involved in the UKSPF-funded project, with 160 actions already started. The CATCh programme has also been recognised nationally for its efforts in working with local schools.

The Local Government Association highlighted the work done through the CATCh programme as part of their case study library, an opportunity for other member local authorities to learn about great work being done across the country.

The project was awarded the Empower Award at the Luton Excellence Awards 2024
