Losing a baby is devastating and we understand that this is a very difficult time for you and your family. We will make sure that registering the stillbirth is as easy as possible.
The medical examiner will send us the "medical certificate of cause of death". After we receive the medical certificate, we will telephone you to arrange an appointment to register the stillbirth.
A stillbirth needs to be registered within 42 days.

You will be given a white form for burial or cremation to take to the funeral director and any certificates you wish to purchase. You can get a certificate in memory of your baby if your pregnancy ends before 24 weeks.
If you have lost your certificate, you can request a new baby loss certificate on GOV.UK.
Certificate of registration
You will receive a certificate of registration and there is no cost for it. This certificate provides proof that the stillbirth has taken place. It includes any names given and the date of the stillbirth.
