Flooding update after heavy rainfall in Luton
All road closures have now been lifted and all known sites of flooding have been attended to and cleared.
Temporary signals are in place on Crawley Green Road junction with Hartsfield Road, as flood water has pushed up a Thames Water manhole cover. This is due to be replaced today but please expect delays.
Clean-up is underway as street sweepers are removing detritus from the carriageways/footways.
News
We know many residents will be concerned and we want to reassure them that council teams are working together and with emergency services to deal with the issues caused as they arise, and to minimise disruption to residents and help keep them safe.
The council’s Highways team are continuing to work through reports of flooding that have come in and are assessing the calls in order to prioritise the worst hit areas on the network first. The gully crews are undertaking clearance work, and although teams were quick to clear some roads, there are still hot spots remaining which they will continue to deal.
There have been a number of reports of roof leaks in council properties. We are assessing these and will rectify as quickly as possible.
My thanks and appreciation goes out to all our teams who have been working throughout the night and continue to tackle the flooding issue across the town.
We will continue to monitor the situation and will keep residents up to date regarding advice on flooding and road closures on our website and social media."
