What work you need listed building consent for
Consent needed
The examples in this list do need listed building consent:
- repairs that include the removal of historic material or changes to the character
- internal alterations that include removal of historic doors, fireplaces or plasterwork
- replacement of external doors or windows
- external painting may require consent if it affects the character of the listed building
Consent not needed
The examples in this list do not usually need listed building consent:
- regular maintenance and 'like for like' repairs
- internal repainting or redecoration
- installing a new bathroom or kitchen
- replacement of modern kitchen and bathroom fittings
