13/05/2019 - Could you adopt a Luton child?

Sub heading

We have children and young people at our heart and we're actively recruiting adopters ready to grow their family and give a permanent home to a waiting child in care.

In Luton, a number of children and young people are waiting for loving, adoptive parents. They are a range of ages and from a variety of backgrounds but what they all have in common is a difficult start in life. They can no longer be brought up by their birth families.

The council is looking for adopters to turn that around and give a child or young person the opportunity to be the best that they can be with the right love and care.

A nurturing and safe home, where a child feels valued, supported and loved is the best place for a child. They need parents who will stick by them through the good times and the bad.

They need support and love to help them overcome their troubled backgrounds, make sense of who they are and grow up to be safe and secure.

Could you step out of your comfort zone and give a child that opportunity?

One of our adopters Sally (name changed) whose daughter is now two years old said: “We chose Luton for our adoption journey because from the very first phone call (and somebody did actually answer the phone!), we were treated with respect, understanding and a large dose of humour (vital for some parts of the journey). And thank goodness we did as our little girl really has completed our family!”

Many people believe that you have to own your own home, have a partner, and have children of your own. You simply need to be over 21, have lots of patience, energy and be flexible.

Health, age and your ability to care for a child throughout their childhood to adulthood are some of the factors looked at during the approval process. We have worked hard on cutting down the time it takes to approve prospective parents and respect your confidentiality throughout the process.

Adesua Osime, Service Director for Operations, Statutory Social Work, Early Help and Prevention said:
“Please don’t rule yourselves out for any reason, give us a call and speak to our team about any doubts and questions you may have. Our friendly adoption team will guide and support you throughout the process.

“Every child deserves a loving, caring family to grow up in and it is our continuing endeavour to ensure children in care find their forever families.”

We are holding an information event on Saturday 18 May 2019, from 10.30am to 12:00 noon at the Rufus Centre, Moorfield Room, Steppingly Road, Flitwick, Bedfordshire, MK45 1AH.

Come along to find out more, speak to Luton adopters and some of our social work teams if you think you could adopt.

You can call the Adoption team on 01582 547804 or visit our adoption page for further information.
