15/05/2018 - Busway open to Luton Hackney Carriages

Sub heading

Hackney Carriage on Busway

Hackney Carriages licensed in Luton are now allowed to use sections of the unguided busway, allowing them more freedom to transport passengers across town.

Councillor Hazel Simmons MBE, Leader of the Council said: “Hackney Carriages are a very important part of our public transport network and allowing use of sections of the busway will be advantageous to customers and drivers alike, helping to reduce travel time and congestion.

“Hackney Carriages form an integral part of our transport hub, linking the train station and airport to the rest of the town and we’re pleased to be able to support them in doing this.”

Luton was recently awarded Purple Flag status and one of the key contributors to this was the public transport network, which assessors described as being “higher than may be expected for a town of this size” with taxi provision appearing to be “more than adequate and very well regulated.”
