10/01/2019 - Come and talk about your council's finances

Sub heading

Luton Council would like to invite members of the public to visit a stand in the Mall to discuss the council’s budget plans with councillors and senior managers.

Councillors on the Executive and the council’s corporate management team will be present in Smith’s Square (near M&S) from 10.30am to 4.30pm on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 January to hear residents’ views.

This is a great chance for you to share views on your priorities and any areas of concern you may have about our ability to deliver the services that matter to you.

It will give us a chance to explain the council’s current financial situation and the significant impact of central government cuts to our funding over recent years. We’ll also explain details of the further cuts that need to be made. In recent years we have already found £113m worth of savings and will have to find a further £27.3m of savings over the next five years. That amount includes £11.4m that needs to be found in 2019/2020.
Do come along if you can. Your comments will be important as we continue to shape the way we use your money to benefit the people of Luton.
Cllr Andy Malcolm, portfolio holder for finances, said: “It is important to remember that the money the council has is to be used for the benefit of Luton’s residents. We want to make sure we take time to listen to what people have to say as we face another challenging few years where more savings need to be found. I hope as many people as possible will take this opportunity to come and meet with us to talk about our finances.”
