Schools update

Sub heading

Luton schools, colleges and other education settings  have risen to the challenge to support the government’s response to the coronavirus.

From Monday 23 March almost all mainstream education provisions will be open for children of key workers and vulnerable children. Parents should contact their child’s school should they have any queries regarding their eligibility to have their child cared for at school. Please see the school closures page for further details
Individual schools have made arrangements to provide work for pupils who will not be attending school. They are also putting in place plans to cater for children who receive free school meals which could include a meal provided by the council’s school catering service or packed lunches.
Some schools have developed local solutions for vulnerable families such as purchasing supermarket vouchers to be exchanged for groceries and also working with local supermarkets to provide food parcels.
We've been liaising with voluntary services including the ‘Luton Youth and Families COVID-19 Response Group’ comprising of the follwing groups who are working together to offer further support to vulnerable families:
  • Families United Network
  • Level Trust
  • Luton Food Bank
  • Tokko Youth Centre
  • Youthscape
