We have introduced Egress, software that will protect sensitive information that is emailed to external third parties that are not within the secure government network and cannot use that method for email communication.
Egress Email and File Protection
We use Egress Email and File Protection to securely share confidential information when sent by email and in attachments, including large files. We have chosen to use Email and File Protection to comply with the EU General Data Protection (GDPR) and to ensure that when confidential data needs to be shared with third parties via email, it is done so securely.
How do I use Egress Email and File Protection to read and reply to an email I have received?
You will need an Egress Account linked to the email address we sent the encrypted email to. If you don’t have one, please follow the steps in this guide to register for a free Egress Account: https://www.egress.com/email-security/knowledge/email-encryption. Setting up a free Egress Account enables you to read, reply to and initiate encrypted emails with staff at Luton Council.
To open and reply to an email encrypted by Email and File Protection using Egress Web Access:
- click on the ‘read this secure email’ link within the notification email you receive
- log into your Egress Account when prompted
- use the Egress Web Access Portal to view email messages and any attachments
- use the Reply / Reply all buttons to reply to the email, attaching any files as required
