Let's Talk About It

Sub heading

Let's Talk About ItWe have created the Let’s Talk About It campaign, in partnership with Bedfordshire Police, with the aim of challenging extremism in all its forms, and to promote a positive counter narrative.

By engaging with our community, together we can prevent terrorism and all forms of extremism.
Let's Talk About It will confront division and negativity wherever it may exist in our communities, enhance cohesion and enable effective attitude changes.

By highlighting the issues and initiating discussions around the potential threats we face as a community, we can create greater understanding and wider awareness.

Our aim is to work together to focus on three key areas:

  1. building close relationships between our schools and universities, prisons, places of worship, health services, children's services, community groups, charities and other institutions;
  2. challenging extremist ideology by working closely  with local and national agencies, partners and our communities;
  3. supporting vulnerable individuals through intervention projects.

There are many types of individuals, organisations and institutions that may be targeted by extremist groups.

They may try to take advantage of these individuals or institutions as a way to share their story with others, particularly with people who may be vulnerable to their messages.

It may help to have a better understanding of extremism. Follow these links for more information:

Let's Talk About It advocates the value of a strong and united community, prioritising the need for consistent awareness of the threat of radicalisation to become a part of our daily lives.

How can Let's Talk About It help?

The Government have a counter-terrorism strategy in place: CONTEST.

CONTEST consists of the following initiatives:

  • PURSUE: to stop terrorist attacks;
  • PREVENT: to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism;
  • PROTECT: to strengthen our protection against a terrorist attack;
  • PREPARE: to mitigate the impact of a terrorist attack.

The first of these initiatives that Let's Talk About It is focusing on is Prevent. It is about safeguarding our community from the threat of terrorism, and is provides links to local resources and practical help to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.
