18/05/2012 - Residents encouraged to take advantage of extended compost offer

Subheading

Luton residents are being given another opportunity to get their hands on free compost after gardeners rushed to take advantage of an offer last week.

Initially running to promote Compost Awareness Week, the offer has been extended for another week following high demand from green-fingered Lutonians.

The compost is available from both of Luton’s household waste recycling centres – on Eaton Green Road and Progress Way. Residents are asked to bring their own bag to fill.

Compost is a nutrient-rich fertilizer which can be used to help plants grow and restore life to soil. It is also extremely easy to make at home, with common household waste items such as vegetable peelings, garden trimmings and even tea bags all suitable to create DIY compost.

Cllr Dave Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “Plenty of Luton’s gardeners have already taken advantage of this great offer, and I would really encourage everyone to act quickly if they want some free compost for their gardens.”
