Student successes at Lealands High school were celebrated yesterday (Wednesday, 10 October) at the school’s annual Presentation Evening.
Each year, the school hold the awards to celebrate the hard work and academic success achieved in the previous academic year.
This year’s event was attended by former Lealands High School student, Niky Wardley, a professional actress who has appeared in Eastenders, Coronation Street and the Catherine Tate Show, as well as starring in the recent BBC sitcom Caroline.
There were prizes and awards in a variety of categories including; recognising progress, certificates of excellence, subject commendation certificates and trophies for students in each year group, including the former Year 11 students who came back to visit the school to collect their awards.
Everyone was entertained on the evening by Lealands’ Performing Arts students, who performed four excerpts from their production of the musical 'We Will Rock You', the school’s most recent production.
Mrs Delia Patterson, Head of Year 9 and Performing Arts teacher, said: “This was a very special evening to celebrate the many achievements of our wonderful students. We were particularly pleased to welcome our special guest - a former student of mine - Niky Wardley who is a real inspiration to our students.”
Cllr Waheed Akbar, Portfolio Holder for children’s services, said: “It is fantastic that the hard work of Lealands students is celebrated each year. I’d like to congratulate all of the award winners at the school.”
