Residents are reminded that as of next Monday (1 October), both of Luton’s Household Waste Recycling Centres will be reverting back to winter opening hours.
The centres, in Eaton Green Road and Progress Way, will be open from 9am-5pm, seven days a week except from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Household Waste Recycling Centres allow residents to dispose of larger household items which they cannot fit into their bin.
Both centres take a variety of items, including paper and card, garden waste and wood, electrical items, scrap metal, tins, cans and plastic bottles, textiles, glass bottles and jars, car and household batteries, energy saving light bulbs, tyres and gas cylinders, mattresses and carpets.
Cllr Dave Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “Household Waste Recycling Centres offer another way for residents to get rid of their waste in an environmentally friendly manner.
“Over 75 per cent of the waste deposited at our centres is recycled or reused, drastically reducing the amount that goes to landfill. I’d really encourage everyone to take advantage of the centres this winter.”
The vast majority of Luton residents are able to use the centres without a free waste permit; however you may need to apply for one if you are driving a van or a pick-up trick or towing a trailer.
