13/03/2012 - Council Tax Letters

Subheading

Luton Borough Council logo

This week we will write to residents to provide supplementary information about their council tax demand for 2012/13.

When sending out bills earlier this month, we should have made clear the percentage increase in the council tax since 2011/12.

Robin Porter, Corporate Director of Commercial and Transformation Services, said: “We wish to stress that this oversight does not in any way affect the validity of Luton’s council tax demand, but we have decided to write again to residents to highlight this information. The actual amounts due from council tax payers were correct on the original letters and everyone should continue to make the necessary arrangements for payment.

"The Council has acted quickly to clarify the situation, we wish to apologise for any confusion caused.”

Regrettably it is estimated that it will cost in the region of £30,000 to resend the letters. Alternative options are being explored to minimise this cost.
