The Local Sustainable Transport Fund will be used to improve facilities and promote access to walking and cycling, bus and train use.
The Council secured the grant from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund and has already identified several schemes that will benefit, including better links, such as cycle lanes, for cyclists and pedestrians travelling to work, local shops and community facilities.
Money will also be used to improve pedestrian and cycle facilities around Sundon Arch, including new pedestrian and cycle crossings on Sundon Park Road and Toddington Road, and to upgrade the new ‘hip-hop’ multi-operator bus ticket to a smartcard system by 2013/14.
Smarter Choices of travel will include a range of workplace, school, and personal travel planning initiatives to encourage greater use of bus and train travel and to walk, cycle or car share more often.
