Heavy traffic
Finding out how to reduce our car trips is useful for reducing our carbon footprint, saving money on fuel and improving our health.

Many of us depend on a car to lead our daily lives, although the number of car trips that we do can be reduced, especially for trips to work, school or to the town centre shops.

The Sustrans Active Travel project in Luton has helped many people to discover or return to walking and cycling as part of their daily routine. It has been found that local residents have felt much healthier and have saved money on fuel by walking and cycling. It is also a useful way to reduce our carbon footprint and to enjoy the outdoors.

There are three railway stations in Luton - Leagrave Station, Luton Station and Luton Airport Parkway. Each station has a number of cycle parking spaces which makes it possible for commuters to cycle and take the train to work. Many commuters use a fold up bike that can be taken on the train to cycle in London, to their workplace.

In Luton there are three main bus companies operating, Arriva, Grant Palmer and Centrebus. There are bus routes to the town centre from each part of Luton. Bus route maps and bus timetables are available to download and paper copies are available at the Town Hall reception. Walking and using a bus to work or the shops is often found to be convenient by regular bus users.
