School Travel Plans

A School Travel Plan sets out a package of measures to promote walking, cycling, taking the bus or car sharing to and from school.

Luton Borough Council, local police, schools and parents are seeking to reduce the use of cars for the school journey to provide a safer environment around schools for children in Luton.  Benefits of an active School Travel Plan include:

• Increased walking, cycling, bus use and car share to school
• Reduced congestion and pollution around schools
• Improved health and fitness of pupils, parents and staff
• Increased personal safety and road safety skills amongst pupils
• Enhanced relations between local communities

Your School's Travel Plan

The Council is proud of the fact that nearly every school in Luton has a School Travel Plan.  Our new challenge is for each school to keep their travel plans active with the promotion of walking and cycling to school.

School travel plans are kept up to date with an annual review and a three year review.  Templates to make the completion of the reviews easier are attached below.  There are also guidelines and a template for completing a new School Travel Plan, attached.
