The Responsible Road User Initiative is for all road users. To encourage people to make Luton a safe place to travel in.

Why should I sign up to the Responsible Road User Initiative?

To reduce the risk of being killed and injured yourself

Last year (2010) four people were killed and nearly 700 injured in road accidents in Luton.

In 2009 three Luton residents were killed and more than 350 were injured in road accidents outside Luton.

The majority of accidents are avoidable if someone involved had done something differently.  The RRUI aims to give people the knowledge and skills to be able to do this even if they are not the person who has made the mistake.

To reduce the costs of road accidents to you

Your insurance premium is likely to go up if you are involved in an accident.

To reduce the costs to society (costs paid for through your taxes and purchase costs of everything)

A fatal road accident costs society £1.5 million.  These costs include emergency services, hospital costs, loss of production of the people involved plus family and friends.
