Responsible pedestrians
- Obey the rules and regulations in the Highway Code (and keep up to date)
- Always use pavements and footpaths (and walk facing on coming traffic if unavailable)
- Use the ‘Green Cross Code’ – Find a safe place to cross, Stop, Look and Listen for traffic when every you cross the road
- Always use a formal crossing point (zebra, pelican/ puffin/ toucan) crossing when one is available
- Keep clear of the road and traffic if impaired through alcohol or drugs (recreational, prescription and over the counter medicines)
- Don’t cross the road whilst speaking on a mobile phone or listening to music/radio
- Always wear something bright at night and in poor daylight
- Be aware of how their actions can affect others
- Ensure friends and family are careful when crossing the road
Be prepared to take further training or advice to improve pedestrian safety
