Concessionary fares

The English National Concessionary Travel Scheme offers free or discounted travel on local public transport for people of pensionable age and those with an eligible disability.

From 1st April 2008, the English National Concessionary Fare scheme allows pass holders off peak travel, for free all over England on local bus services.

Within Luton, Dunstable and Houghton Regis pass holders still benefit from free 24 hour travel within the conurbation.

If you wish to apply for a pass, you can visit the Town Hall between

08.30 and 17.30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday or

between 10.00 and 17.30 on Wednesdays.

Please note, as of 1st of January 2012, replacement charge for all Concessionary Fares Bus Passes Smartcards will be increased to £11.50.

CHANGES TO AGE ELIGIBILITY- January 2010

Following the pre-budget announcement in early December, the Department for Transport has made changes to the age eligibility criteria for the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme.

The changes mean that the qualifying age for concessionary bus passes will be brought into line with the pensionable age of UK residents.

Anyone with a birthday before 5 April 1950 or who already has a bus pass will not be affected. There will be an incremental change for those born between 6 April 1950 and 5 April 1955. Those born after 6 April 1955 will qualify for a bus pass when they become eligible for a state pension.
