All referrals to the occupational therapy service are made via the referral management team (for adults over 18) - see contact details at the foot of the page - or the children’s initial assessment team (for under 18’s).
Referrals are prioritised by need in accordance with the Luton Community Care Practice guidelines and Fair Access to Care guidelines.
The team provides an assessment and advice service for provision of equipment and adaptations to all service users with physical disabilities to enable them to maximise their independence and continue living in the community. This includes assistance to people being discharged from hospital following a substantial change in their functional ability, advice and assistance to carers, and manual handling advice. Please download our leaflet below - Keeping as independent as possible Occupational Therapy services for adults.
Recommendations for major adaptations are made following a full assessment of need and an application processed to the relevant service according to the tenure of the applicant. Download our factsheets below to find out about Adapting your council property if you have a disability, Adapting your own home if you have a disability and a Guide to Disabled Facilities Grants. Where a property is unsuitable or cannot be adapted, the team will assist in making recommendations for re-housing to meet disability needs.
