Cycling is efficient, pollution-free and healthy, and Luton borough council is trying to encourage more people to take it up. More and more special routes for cyclists have been built in and around Luton in recent years and more cycle stands have appeared in the town centre and at railway stations.
The Luton cycle strategy was adopted in 2002 and has been revised and updated for 2006. The strategy includes policies to further improve other facilities for cyclists, make cycling safer and bicycles more secure, and promote cycling as an alternative to the car.
