Luton Mela will not be held in 2006 as further funding is being sought to develop the event in the near future as part of British Asian arts development programme for Luton.

However, Luton's first Mehfil in the park will take place on Sunday 13th August 2006 in Wardown Park, Luton.

Bring the family and a picnic and soak up a true Asian experience set in the green parkland of Wardown Park.

It will be an Asian festival with a more traditional classical twist.  Although significantly smaller, more intimate than a Mela, it doesn't mean less fun!

5,000 people are expected to attend Mehfil event which will feature classical, folk and locally produced music and dance performances.

The event will run from 2pm until 7pm and as well as performances from Baluji Shrivastav (classical sitar recital), Raj De (Bollywood singer) and Bukshi Javaid Salamat Qawwal and Party (the Singing Dervishes of Pakistan) you will also find stalls selling traditional products and food and some amusements and activities for the children.

However there is only very limited trading space available and due to a very large response to a recent mail out, this is now fully allocated.
