Health and Safety in Builders Merchants

Luton Borough Council aims to work with local Builders Merchants and their Trade Associations, to help raise health and safety awareness and keep it at the top of everyone’s agenda

The Builders Merchants Safety Project will look at how builders merchants in Luton are controlling risks on their sites and preventing accidents. The focus is on slips and trips, falls from height, dust and ventilation, manual handling and workplace transport.

The project will involve providing information to merchants so they understand the requirements of health and safety law, followed by visits to check for compliance.

Where premises are breaking the law, enforcement action may be taken.
