Act on C02
Energy efficiency is all about using the least amount of energy for whatever it is we need. Everyone uses energy each day - electricity powers our lights, appliances, computers and televisions and we burn a variety of fuels to give us hot water and heat.

Making sure we use the least amount of energy to do all of these types of things means that we save energy overall.

A good example of energy efficiency is using low energy light bulbs. These bulbs often use about 20% of the electricity needed for a standard tungsten bulb and so help save a lot of energy. Saving this energy also means that we will save money on our electricity bill and help reduce our impact on the environment.

Here are some other ideas on how to be energy efficient at home:

  • Keep the heat in your home by installing cavity wall insulation and loft insulation
  • Set your timer / programmer to make sure your heating only comes on when you are at home
  • Buy A-rated appliances whenever you replace your washing machine, cooker, boiler, fridge etc.
  • Insulate your hot water tank
  • Keep lids on pans to help keep the heat in when cooking
