Lewsey - The story so far....

'Your Say, Your Way' in Lewsey began in 2009, continuing into 2011, with ward meetings, community festivals, face to face surveys and Community Planning Decision Day & Community Funding Decision Day Events.

So far, these events have seen over 3500 residents attending and getting involved.

Community Planning Decision Days

The Community Planning Decision Day Event in 2009 saw residents come together and meet with Council workers and partner agencies to discuss their issues and possible solutions. We repeated the process in Lewsey in September 2011, which ended with voting on the priorities people wanted to see taken forward by the Council and its partners at the Luton Forum - including the police, primary care trust, fire and rescue service, the Luton Assembly, other public service providers and the business community.

The top 3 priorities identified were:

1. Cleaner Lewsey campaign - 'Love where you live'
2. Improve the relationships between the Police and the community
3. Develop social enterprise opportunities

In order to meet the community priorities, a two year action plan was put in place. The action plan ran until Autumn 2011 and the new/ updated action plan is currently in the process of development.

Community Funding Decision Days      

Since 2009, we've held two Community Funding Decision Days events which have seen 15 local community projects funded to help improve the local community.

The opportunity for funding was advertised to the community, local groups and the voluntary sector to deliver projects in the ward which target the identified priorities, as set at the Community Planning Days.  This was then followed by the Community Funding Decision Day event, where the community came and watched the groups present their individual projects. Residents then voted on which projects they wanted to see happen in their area. To see what projects were funded, please open the Community Projects Update attachment at the bottom of the page.

Next steps

The latest opportunity for the community, local groups and the voluntary sector to apply for funding closed on Friday 6 January 2012.

The Community Funding Decision Day Event will take place on Saturday 11 February 2012 at the Lewsey Community Centre from 10.00am - 1.00pm. Arrivals are welcome from 9.45am and refreshments are provided (please see advertising below). To book a place at this event, contact Sultan Khan on 01582 548780 or email YourSayYourWay@luton.gov.uk
