GBI is discretionary funding administered by East of England Development Agency (EEDA) on behalf of Department for Business, Enterprise designed to support businesses looking at investing through growth/diversification plans, but need financial help to go ahead.

Funding supports capital expenditure projects (typically new premises/plant and machinery), that lead to long term improvements in productivity, skills and employment.

Grant intervention levels are typically between 10-20%; the exact amount depends on the business size and location.     

Luton has a number of Assisted Areas (Biscot, Challney, Crawley, Dallow, High Town, Lewsey, Round Green, Saints, South, Stopsley and Wigmore) these attract higher levels of intervention and businesses may apply typically for a grant between 20-30%. 

To qualify, investment projects must meet various eligibility criteria. 
All GBI funding projects should be new with no prior commitments to expenditure.

GBI support must be integral to your project's success, and you should demonstrate that all other appropriate sources of funding have been exhausted.

Most industry sectors are eligible for support.  However, agriculture, farming and fisheries, coal, steel and synthetic fibres, transport and shipping, local services example retail, restaurants, hairdressers, over capacity projects are ineligible.
