Manufacturing remains the largest sector in Luton, employing 19.7% of all employees in the Borough, but its percentage is steadily decreasing year on year. While employment in the wholesale/retail trade industry is increasing with 18% of the Luton workforce employed in this area. (Source: ABI 2001).
