Young people
The Independent Visitor Scheme is to provide a befriending service for children in care up to the age of 18. The Mentoring service is for young care leavers or older children in care up to the age of 25.

We provide free independent visitor and mentoring services for Luton children in care and care leavers.

Independent Visiting Service
An Independent Visitor can provide a support and befriending service to children and young people who are in care. Although this service originated from the 1989 Children Act, changes to the statutory requirement from the 2008 Act now mean that ‘any young person in care’ where it is considered to be in their interests is now eligible for this service. It is no longer just for those with little or no contact with their families. Our research shows that a long term, safe and trusted independent adult can make a significant difference to the well-being of a child in care.

Mentoring Service
This service is specifically aimed at care leavers. Again, it provides an independent safe adult to befriend and support a young adult. A mentor may have a more practical focus, often with persons entering into independent living.  This would also be a time limited, focussed piece of support.

The procedure for making a referral to The Independent Visitor Monitor and Mentoring Schemes can be obtained by contacting  your social worker or link worker or by contacting us directly.

If you would like to find out more about any of our services for young people or would like to be a mentor or independent visitor, please contact us using the details below.
